Learning by sharing, networking.

The demographics of woodworking industry events have changed. Woodworking executives and craftsmen now share designs, techniques, and inspiration with colleagues around the world. Technologies and materials also can be readily discovered and researched online.

Now, live events provide essential face-to-face time to communicate in ways that can't be done remotely--especially for live demonstrations of technology, opportunities to touch or even test tools, materials and hardware-- along with fellowship with peers.

For 2015, Woodworking Network participated in several key events: LIGNA, interzum, WIC, AWFS, the WCMA and CPA gatherings, as well as staging several key industry conferences it owns: the Cabinets & Closets 2015 Conference & Expo in Chicago; and the Woodworking Machinery & Supply Conference & Expo in Toronto November 2015 (pictured).

The Pasadena, CA Convention Center has been confirmed as the site for Cabinets & Closets 2016, being held March 22-24. The annual event--which features a full-day conference, plant tour and expo hall--is dedicated to home remodeling professionals specializing in building kitchen cabinets, closets and other home storage designs.

"Pasadena offers all of the amenities of a big city, with plenty of restaurants, hotels and scenery contained within this easy-to-get around city," said Laurel Didier, publisher of Woodworking Network.

New Finishing Conference

The conference on March 22 will be staged in partnership with the Association of Closets & Storage Professionals and the Cabinet Makers Association. New for 2016 will be a day-long Finishing Conference track--an expansion supported by positive reviews that continue to come in from the 2015 Cabinets & Closets event held last April in Schaumburg, IL. More than 70 exhibitors participated in that Cabinets & Closets Expo--including 17 first-time exhibitors. Nearly 1,000 conference and expo attendees visited the show floor and the day-long conference attendance tripled from 2014 to 171 participants.

For 2016, the Pasadena Convention Center offers an effective business setting for the Cabinets & Closets event. Pasadena, home of the Rose Bowl, also offers a welcome vacation destination, close to Disneyland, Universal Studios, and other Los Angeles attractions.

WMS Hits a High Note

At the 2015 Woodworking Machinery and Supply Expo, exhibiting companies increased a dramatic 23 percent from the previous show at the International Centre in Mississauga, an industrial suburb at the edge of the city near the Toronto airport.

The show opened with a good deal of excitement, and in fact more than 70 attendees and speakers were already on the floor at the WMS Conference, which began at 8:00 a.m. with a keynote on Industry 4.0. By 9:30 a.m. with proceedings in full swing, dozens of registrants arrived and clustered around the main entrance at Hall 1. There, a crowd of industry association and business leaders gathered to welcome them at a ribbon-cutting event to mark the 2015 edition of WMS.

Parliamentary Assistant Marie-France LaLonde, whose responsibility includes Business Development, offered words of encouragement to the business owners and operators who gathered--anxious to enter the packed hall. And enter they did. Traffic was steady all day Thursday, Nov. 5, then peaked on Friday with heavy crowds, the aisles so thick with visitors at times that passage was challenging. Wading through the long walk from the entry in Hall 1 to the back of Hall 2, close to 4,000 industry attendees engaged 1,400 exhibitor representatives on the expo floors. There were over 260 companies and business brands represented in more than 50 product categories.
