Learn to stimulate economy in your home town.

Do you want to learn how to keep your local businesses in your community? Are you interested in stimulating your stagnant local economy? A good business retention and expansion program is just what you need.

NLC is offering a half day training seminar to show you how to design and implement local business retention and expansion programs that will help you keep the businesses you have and identify new opportunities for expansion. This seminar will be offered as a pre-conference at the Congressional Cities Conference.

"Designing an Effective Business Retention and Expansion Program" will be held on Saturday, March 7 from 1:30 p.m. - 4:30 p.m., and there is still time to register.

The session will feature Dolores Palma, a nationally recognized expert on commercial development with expertise in strategic planning, business district revitalization, and program development and evaluation. Palma is president of Hyett-Palma, Inc. a national consulting firm specializing in the economic revitalization of older business districts.

Presenting findings from a survey of 210 downtowns in cities of all sizes, the seminar will feature an overview of trends in downtown and business development. This segment will help answer your questions about what other communities are doing and identify some of the typical revitalization programs being implemented. Case studies on effective business retention and expansion programs will be presented, with an analysis of lessons learned from each at the conclusion of this segment.

Each participant will be asked to identify their own community's business retention and expansion needs and strategies will be defined for dealing with the needs. A step-by-step handout on how to proceed with designing and implementing a business retention and expansion program once you're home will be given to each participant to facilitate replication of what was presented.

Don't miss this opportunity to do something NOW to revitalize your local economy! For more information on this pre-conference seminar, call NLC's Center for Education and Information Resources at (202) 626-3170.
