League star on drug rap.

Byline: By STEPHEN WHITE

RUGBY league ace Leroy Rivett has been accused of plotting to smuggle almost pounds 1million worth of drugs into Britain.

The 29-year-old, who plays for Hull Kingston Rovers, was involved in a scheme to import cannabis from Spain, Leeds crown court heard yesterday.

The jury was told that more than pounds 800,000 of the Class C drug, shipped from Barcelona in blue plastic chemical drums, was discovered when police raided a Leeds warehouse.

Richard Wright, prosecuting, said: "The drugs were to enter this country for one purpose - the onward commerical supply and distribution."

Former Leeds Rhino Rivett, who lives in the city, has pleaded not guilty to conspiracy to supply a controlled drug.

Barbara Brazil, 48, of Leeds, a partner at the warehouse which was raided in July 2004, also denies the charge.

The trial continues.
