League should play the game; SPORTS LETTERS.
The League in their wisdom (or lack of it) have appeared to give the green light to the event, even though their first in 2008 was to be the 'first and last' such festival on cricket days!
It was quoted 2008 and again last year the precedent would not continue, but it appears the league have backtracked on their promise.
What about all the other league clubs who could (and would) raise monies for professionals on Drakes League matchdays by rescheduling games if allowed, but are told to go away and play cricket? In this case it appears to be one role for one and begger the rest of us.
I don't think anyone has a personal grudge with the Shepley club raising funds, but the league allowing this to become an annual event surely have set another precedent - that other clubs applying for similar events on scheduled match days must be granted their wish in the name of being a democratic league.
May I suggest the League show their teeth and right this gross anomaly which has slid in. Tell Shepley and their clog dancers to reschedule, or anarchy will follow in the League.
Games of cricket must be played on matchdays at scheduled times, with no rescheduling for non-cricket events which could be held out of our already short season.
Clubs should not be expected to alter fixture timing or move grounds to accommodate such events - teams maybe jeopardising their chances unfairly through no fault of their own.
Play the game, League, and get this sorted now.
