League leader Fener to try again to widen gap at top.

ySTANBUL (CyHAN)- Spor Toto Super League leader Fenerbahce, also called the Yellow Canaries, will be striving once again to widen the gap between it and BeE-iktaE- when it welcomes KasympaE-a to KadykE[micro]y for a "mini" ystanbul derby in week 21 on Friday night.

The Canaries were humiliated 4-2 away by gritty Antalyaspor in week 20 last Friday, a result that brought their 13-match undefeated run to an abrupt end and reduced its lead at the top to a mere two points.

BeE-iktaE- has two matches at hand -- the week 18 home game with Mersin ydmanyurdu and the away encounter against Trabzonspor in week 19 that were snowed out. This means BeE-iktaE- will leapfrog the Canaries into first place by winning only one of those two games.

Now with BeE-iktaE- idle until Sunday, the Canaries would increase their lead to five points by beating seventh-placed KasympaE-a on Friday and let the Eagles think about the rest.

Victory is also necessary for the Canaries on Friday because they need morale ahead of their Europa League round of 32 first leg against Lokomotiv Moskva in ystanbul on Feb. 18. Viktor Pereira's men need a very good result at home next Thursday in order to turn their visit to Moscow for the second leg on Feb. 25 into a tourist trip.

But the sudden drop in form of the Canaries is a cause for serious concern. The 4-2 humiliation in the Super League and the 3-3 draw with obscure Amedspor in the Turkish Cup on Tuesday means Pereira must raise the bar for Fener to bounce back against PaE-a on Friday. Kickoff is at 8 p.m.
