Leading Article: We need to rise above such jibes.

DAVID Blunkett's ill-judged remarks that Colin Jackson had succeeded ``despite being Welsh'' came as no surprise to the hurdler's father.

Ossie Jackson said Colin had suffered similar jibes throughout his career, despite dominating his sport with a string of spectacular athletic successes.

Whenever he won he was British or English, if he lost he was Welsh, said Mr Jackson.

Like Colin we all need to rise above such immature jibes from people who should know be t t e r.

We do ourselves no favours by over-reacting.

We can be proud that Colin Jackson will continue to act as a wonderful ambassador for Wales with a dignity seemingly sadly lacking in the Home Secretary
