Leaders flock for a second day to pay respects to Salam.

BEIRUT: Politicians, religious and security officials gathered at BIEL and later at Prime Minister Tammam Salam's house for a second day Thursday to offer condolences to the leader following his mother's death.

Progressive Socialist Party leader Walid Jumblatt and MP Michel Aoun attended the commemoration at BIEL. Also in attendance were Druze spiritual leader Sheikh Naim Hasan, Metropolitan Greek Orthodox Archbishop Elias Audi and Grand Mufti Sheikh Abdel-Latif Derian among others.

Also paying their respects were Finance Minister Ali Hasan Khalil, Labor Minister Sejaan Azzi, Information Minister Ramzi Joreige, Industry Minister Hussein Hajj Hasan, head of Hezbollah's Loyalty to the Resistance bloc MP Mohammad Raad and MP Michel Murr.

Salam also received Army commander Gen. Jean Kahwagi and other security officials.

Moreover, Speaker Nabih Berri paid condolences to Salam at his Moseitbeh residence.

Jordan's Foreign Minister Nasser Judeh and UAE Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Anwar Mohammad Qarqash extended their condolences to Salam via telephone.

Tamima Mardam Bey, the widow of several-time Prime Minister and late Saeb Salam, died Tuesday evening.
