Leader's cash blast.

GLASGOW council leader Steve Purcell yesterday accused SNP Glasgow North-East by-election candidate David Kerr of lying about the city's schools spending.

He hit out after Kerr used out-of-date Scottish government figures to claim the budget was being cut by pounds 7million.

But current council figures, which are not disputed by the government, show schools spending is rising by pounds 1.2million.

Purcell said: "David Kerr's comments are untrue and he knows it.

"He lied when he claimed Glasgow City Council cut spending by pounds 7million.

"I don't mind having a debate about our priorities but I will not put up with absolute untruths."
