Lawyers observe strike against FIA prosecutor's murder.

ISLAMABAD -- The legal fraternity on Friday announced to boycott court proceedings in lower court against murder of FIA prosecutor Chaudhry Zulfiqar in Islamabad.

Chaudhry Zulfiqar was prosecutor in Benazir Bhutto murder case. He was also the prosecutor investigating the 2008 Mumbai attacks.

Unidentified bike riders opened fire on Zulfiqar's car in G/9 sector when he left his home to appear in hearing of Benazir Bhutto murder case involving former president Pervez Musharraf who is under arrest in his Chak Shahzad farmhouse where he is being interrogated by FIA and police teams.

Chaudhry died on the spot while his guard was injured.

Musharraf's All Pakistan Muslim League (APML) Dr. Amjad has condemned the murder.

On Friday lawyers of High Court Bar Association Rawalpindi (HCBAR),and District Bar Association Rawalpindi (DBAR) observed strike in lower courts.

The protesting lawyers called for early arrest of the culprits, appealing Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry to take suo moto notice of the assassination.

Meanwhile expressing his deep sense of shock and grief Syed Qalb-i-Hassan, Vice-Chairman, Pakistan Bar Council strongly condemned the target killings of Ch. Zulfiqar Ali, Advocate and called upon the Government for taking immediate effective practical steps to check and control the situation and ensuring safety and security of Advocates failing which the legal fraternity would be constrained to resort to launch a Countrywide agitation.

He was of the view that it is a serious threat to members of the legal fraternity as in the recent past successive incidents of kidnappings, physical torture and target killings of Advocates have been taken place which not only speaks a lot of miserable failure of the law enforcement agencies to provide safety and security to Advocates but also looks a calculative move by some hidden hands to target members of the legal fraternity not only to restrain them from doing their professional duties but also to stop them to play their active and due role for the rule for law and supremacy of the Constitution.

He also called upon the Bar Councils and Bar Associations all over Pakistan, to convene protest meetings of their respective Houses for condemning successive incidents of kidnappings, physical torture and target killings of Advocates and to press upon and demand the Government for taking immediate steps to stop such incidents in future.
