Lawyers in battle to defend legal aid.

FREE legal aid for vulnerable people is in danger of being axed because of tighter budget controls,North Wales law firms have warned.

A group of Wrexham solicitors say it could mean victims of domestic abuse,or vulnerable children, are unable to get legal aid because of tighter budget controls.

They are urging people to lobby politicians to get something done.

A spokesman for the solicitors said: ``The situation has become so serious that many solicitors in Wrexham may shortly be unable to offer any service at all to their clients under the Legal Help Scheme in family matters.

``This would affect you directly if you were seeking legal help involving divorce, children issues or domestic violence.''

He added: ``If you are concerned about the way in which you may be denied legal help, then you are urged to contact your local MP.''
