Business Editors/High-Tech Writers

ST. PAUL, Minn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 2, 2003

Lawson Software (Nasdaq:LWSN) said it will team with Sun Microsystems, Inc. to meet the complex demands of large and high-transaction volume retailers.

Sun and Lawson will help retail customers lower costs and create new profit opportunities with solutions for category management, merchandising, strategic pricing and supply chain management. Together, Lawson and Sun will provide scalable, high-performance solutions to the high-transaction volume retail market and enable retailers to pre-test Lawson solutions on Sun systems to solve integration issues, help speed time to deployment and more quickly realize a return on their IT investment.

Dutch retailer Jumbo Supermarkten says the Sun and Lawson relationship will help advance the retailer's own corporate goals. "The relationship between Sun and Lawson will help us in providing the highest quality products at the best prices by speeding deployment and maximizing IT solutions for assortment and category management," said Fritz van Eerd, chief executive officer at Jumbo Supermarkten.

"Lawson's Retail Enterprise running on Sun offers an unbeatable proposition to our high-volume customers," said Carol Mackenzie, retail vertical market director, Lawson Software. "Many of our customers manage hundreds of thousands to millions of inventory movement transactions alone that require reliable solutions that drive costs out of their operations and open new profit opportunities. Since the majority of Lawson Retail Operations customers run on the Sun platform, this enhanced relationship enables us to extend the benefits to existing customers and to new ones."

"Given the size of the market opportunity in retail, Lawson's strategic focus on the retail category and demonstrated innovation with its Retail Enterprise suite of applications paired with Sun's scalable, cost-effective platform is a win-win and profit-generating combination for the retail market," said Bob DeLaney, director, retail industry solutions worldwide, Sun Microsystems. "This partnership will strengthen our collective ability to meet and exceed retailers' needs."

Together, Lawson and Sun will:

1. Offer highly scalable, high-performance solutions specialized for large and high-transaction volume retailers, including the entire Lawson Retail Enterprise solution, encompassing Lawson Retail Operations, Enterprise Visibility and Enterprise Operations suites running on SunFire(TM) Enterprise Server and Solaris(TM), the number one UNIX(R) platform.

2. Feature Lawson in Sun's Retail iForce Center which simulates real retail business environments and customer scenarios, allowing enterprises the opportunity to see how proposed solutions can perform, with minimal investment, in a risk-free environment, and using the latest in Lawson and Sun technology and end-to-end computing platforms. Joint customers will also be able to build custom proof-of-concept demonstrations and architectural blueprints tailored to their own IT environment.

3. Roll out a global marketing and sales effort to promote the strengths of their customer value proposition for large and high-transaction volume retail.

Lawson's industry-focused software solutions running on Sun enable retailers to easily integrate the systems they use to run and grow their businesses. These solutions provide financial information and analysis needed to help increase profit margins, and provide solutions to manage inventory flow including supply chain and merchandising, and the employee "hire to retire" process. Lawson customers include five of the top 10 U.S.-based retailers, eight of the top 20 apparel retailers, seven of the top 25 grocery chains, 23 of the top 100 restaurant chains and 20 of the top 100 specialty chains.
