He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Judith A. (Callahan) Lutes; their children, Christine A. Schultze of Lancaster, Michael P. Lutes and his fiancee, Tracey Maillet, of Clinton and Mark K. Lutes, all of Clinton; his grandchildren, Matthew, Megan and Christopher Schultze, Steven Lutes and wife, Samantha, Allan and Callie Lutes; a great-grandson Rocco Lutes; several nieces, nephews and many friends.
Mr. Lutes is predeceased by brothers, John A. Lutes and Thomas A. Lutes.
He was born in Charlestown to the late John and Florence (Simpson) Lutes. Following studies at Clinton High School, he enlisted to serve the nation in the U.S. Army. Corporal Lutes returned home a recipient of the Purple Heart Award with meritorious service in the Korean War. He spent his lifelong career as a firefighter serving the Town of Clinton for nearly 30 years before retiring. He later held part-time employment for several years with Varise Bros. Florist in Clinton.
Mr. Lutes was a member of the Eight Point Sportsman's Club and took pleasure in both camping and ice fishing. He could be often found watching professional wrestling at home or listening attentively to his scanner day and night.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, Sept. 27, from the Philbin-Comeau Funeral Home, 176 Water St., Clinton, with Mass of Christian burial celebrated at 10 a.m., in St. John the Evangelist Church, 80 Union St., Clinton. Burial will follow in St. John Cemetery, Lancaster. Contributions may be made in memory of Mr. Lutes to Clinton Fire Fighters-Local 3189, 555 Main St., Clinton, MA 01510.
