Latter: Your Say: To The Point: Best wishes to Gazza.

Byline: George Watson

IRONICALLY on a day when you print a letter decrying the modern sportsman as overpaid posers, (Mr. P Morris, Rugby, Your Say February 22), we hear the sad news of Paul Gascoigne's health problems.

I'm sure every English football supporter wishes him a full recovery and agrees he was a great player who gave us a lot of enjoyment during his playing days, especially with his brilliant solo goal against Scotland.

It also reminded me of an amusing front page story in the Telegraph about 15 years ago, when a local Sunday league side claimed to have signed Mr Gascoigne from under the noses of Rangers FC to play for them, for the price of two pints.

Let's hope that these local Sunday league football players were able to handle their fame without becoming "posers" or resorting to alcohol.

Personally, I would be quite happy to have a few more overpaid posers up at the City if they were winning more games.
