Late work can kill you.

Byline: DEIRDRE TYNAN

WORKING night shifts puts the body under severe stress and can lead to potentially fatal heart problems, scientists have warned.

Sleep researchers have long known that burning the midnight oil can lead to health problems normally associated with smoking or bad diet.

But now they have found shift work increases the risk of very dangerous irregular heart beats which could explain why night workers are prone to heart disease.

Those who do not smoke or drink coffee are equally affected by the disruption to their sleep.
