Written for atmospheric scientists familiar with laser remote sensor (Lidar) theory and operation, this dense volume presents the new femtosecond white light lidar, elastic lidar measurement of the troposphere, and differential absorption lidar methods for monitoring trace gases in the planetary boundary layer. The longest chapter describes the measurement of temperature and constituent structures in the middle and upper atmosphere by resonance fluorescence lidar. Other topics of the nine papers include fluorescence spectroscopy and imaging of lidar targets, wind lidar, airborne lidar systems, and space-based lidar.
