Larger than life Marsh will be sadly missed.

Byline: TONY O'HEHIR

THE passing of Jim Marsh removed a larger than life figure from the Irish racing scene.

Senior stewards' secretary with the Turf Club during the 1960s and 70s, he was military-like in his approach to the job and frequently put the fear of God into jockeys. However, he was respected for being firm but fair.

He later served two terms in a similar position with the Hong Kong Jockey Club and with his wife Sheila was a genial host to Irish racing folk who visited Hong Kong.

Away from the track he was a great raconteur. He'll be sadly missed.
