Large-sized panel shipments up 1.5% MoM to 71.1 m. in Oct.: WitsView.
Benefiting from subsidies for energy-saving products in China and emerging year-end demand in the U.S. and Europe, the LCD TV panel monthly shipments hit a new high.
In addition to increasing demand from Chinese TV brands, whose exports have been increasing clearly in the fourth quarter, year-end TV promotional campaigns in the U.S. and Europe are expected to stir up purchase willingness, raising TV-panel shipments by 1.4% MoM in October to 21.5 million units, a new record high.
The monitor panel shipment grew 1.6% MoM to 15.45 million units in October. Shipments of notebook PC panels above 12.1-inch declined by 17.6% MoM to 14.25 million units, due to main clients' account settling and inventory adjustments after a procurement surge in the third quarter. Shipments of tablet PC panels increased 24.2% MoM to 17.69 million units, driven by improved panel production yield rate and surging iPad mini panel shipments (which exceeded 2.2 million units in the month). Netbook-panel shipments amounted to 2.17 million units, a 4% MoM increase.
Sales promotions in North America for Black Friday has fueled demand for over-50-inch large-size TVs. WitsView's research manager Jeffy Chen indicated that global shipment proportion of above-50-inch TV panels exceeded 10% in October, from 5.3%, 7%, and 9.4% in the first three quarters, respectively. That, according to Chen, is clear evidence that brand vendors' low-price strategy has lifted market acceptance of large-size TV models.
