Large forensics and police presence remain at scene of double shooting; Two men remain in a serious condition in hospital.

Forensics are still combing through evidence at the scene of adouble shootingin Norris Green.

Two men in their 30s were shot during thetargeted attack, one in the head and the other in the chest, and both are in a serious condition in hospital.

Witnesses reported seeing twomasked gunmenfleeing the scene onWapshare Roadat around 7.15pm on Saturday.

Pictures show forensics are still at the scene of the "brazen attack" more than 12 hours after the shooting and a cordon is still in place.

Forensics officers could also be seen taking photographs inside a home on Wapshare Road.

At least five officers dressed in whiteforensics suitscould be seen walking in and out of a house in the middle of the Norris Green housing estate.

Police cars and two forensic vans are also still parked on the street where police promised to have a greater presence in the wake of the shooting.

Detective Inspector Sabi Kaur said: "This shocking incident in a residential area has left two men with serious injuries and we will do everything in our power to locate those responsible for this brazen attack.

"We are keeping an open mind as to why this has happened and the investigation is in its very early stages however we are determined to establish who is responsible and to bring them to justice.

"Patrols in the area will be stepped up to reassure and support the community and I would welcome anyone with concerns to please get in contact with us."

She added: "There is absolutely no place for gun crime on our streets and incidents such as this one are simply unacceptable and will not be tolerated by Merseyside Police. I would urge the local community to come together to help us take a stand against the use of firearms and violence on our streets and report anything they saw or heard to us so we can take action."

Nearby residents spoke last night of their terror at living so close to the area the men were gunned down.

Paul Kane told theECHO: "It's scary that something like this can literally happen right on your doorstep. You think you're safe and then something like this happens."

Merseyside Police are asking for anyone who witnessed the attack or who has CCTV or dashcam footage to get in touch.

The latest incident took place close to another shooting in the Croxteth area on Friday night - in which a woman in her 60s suffered leg injuries - although there is no suggestion they are linked at this stage.
