Large Brown Rat.

Byline: VALERIE HILL

IT WAS a shock to see a large brown rat foraging in our garden a few weeks ago.

Then I got another shock.

After calling in St Helens Council's pest control, I received a "customer services" follow-up letter, wanting to know my ethnic origin.

What is the point of this?

Why, when we're collecting supermarket vouchers to buy computers in school, because the council is so cash-strapped, is it wasting money on letters enquiring about the ethnicity of people calling the rat catcher?
