Lane rides defense to victory.

GRESHAM - Lane held Mount Hood scoreless for nearly 10 minutes in the first half Saturday en route to a 75-59 Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges South Region women's basketball victory over the Saints.

The Titans (13-3 overall, 2-0 NWAACC) led 23-0 before the Saints scored their first points.

Jennifer Kimbrow had a career-high 21 points and nine rebounds for Lane, which got 21 points and eight rebounds from Carmen Williams. Theresa Brown (12 points, 12 rebounds) and Sarah Whitfield (10 points, 11 rebounds) posted double-doubles for the Titans.

The only negative for Lane in the victory was an injury to starting point guard Kourtney Parks, who dislocated her left ring finger while deflecting a pass and will be out 10 days.

Beacons' foul shooting brings win over SOU

Northwest Christian University outscored Southern Oregon 44-11 at the foul line Saturday and beat the Raiders 85-75 in a Cascade Collegiate Conference men's basketball game at Morse Event Center.

Dylan Perry had 23 points and Erik Quick-Warner added 20 for the Beacons (10-7 overall, 4-4 CCC). Quick-Warner and Perry combined to make 28-of-29 foul shots for NCU, which made 44-of-50 from the line to Southern Oregon's 11-of-20.

Jordan Whittenburg added 12 points for the Beacons, who outscored Southern Oregon 52-35 in the second half.

River City hands Eugene second home loss

James Abudakar's goal 3:01 into overtime gave the River City Jaguars a 2-1 victory over the Eugene Generals in a Northern Pacific Hockey League game Saturday at Lane Event Center.

John Strahle's first-period goal gave Eugene a 1-0 lead, but Erik Mathies scored 8:04 into the third period to tie the score.

Eugene (28-7) remains tied for first place in the Pacific Division after losing for just the second time in 16 home games this season.

Southern Oregon holds off NCU in women's game

Northwest Christian University couldn't build upon its first Cascade Collegiate Conference women's basketball victory, falling 62-58 to Southern Oregon at Morse Event Center on Saturday.

McKenzie Gambee and Jenneca Crocker scored 13 points each to lead the Beacons (6-11 overall, 1-7 CCC), who beat Oregon Tech on Friday night. Elise Gray added 10 points for NCU.

Saints manhandle Titans in men's basketball

GRESHAM - Four Mount Hood Community College players scored in double figures as the Saints ran away from Lane, 90-47, in a Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges men's basketball game Saturday.

Earl Jones had a game-high 15 points for the Saints (11-3 overall, 2-0 NWAACC).

Three 20-point scorers not enough for EBC

PORTLAND - Joseph Johnson scored 28 points, and Austin Hodges added 20 to lead Portland Bible College to a 129-88 men's basketball victory over Eugene Bible College on Saturday.

Michael Hamilton led EBC (3-4) with 26 points, seven steals and five assists. Chris Litty added 22 points, and Lyle Montgomery scored 20.

OSU baseball team ranked 24th in preseason

Oregon State will begin the 2009 season ranked 24th nationally in the baseball poll.

The Beavers, who open the season Feb. 20 at Tennessee, were 28-24 last year and missed postseason play.
