Landmark sport city in Isa Town.

His Majesty King Hamad will today lay the foundation stone for Isa Town Sport City.

The new landmark is named after the late Amir HH Shaikh Isa bin Salman Al Khalifa.

Three multi-purpose halls each accommodating 1,500 spectators will be built in the first phase. This section will also host the headquarters of table tennis, martial arts and disabled sport associations, in addition to VIP stands, conference rooms, state-of-the-art media centres and other facilities.

The first phase has been awarded to Bokhowa Construction Company as part of a BD22 million deal.

The existing Bahrain National Stadium will undergo a major facelift as part of the second phase. The developments will include a hi-tech electronic clock, a new athletics circuit, VIP and spectators' stands in addition to a ceiling harmonising with Isa Town's typical architecture.

A multipurpose hall, accommodating around 8,000 spectators, will be constructed as part of the third phase.

The facility will also include a VIP stand, media centre and other sections.
