Byline: The Register-GuardKelly Dyer tossed a one-hitter with 14 strikeouts and added an RBI double in a three-run first inning, lifting No. 1 Churchill to a 7-0 Midwestern League softball victory over visiting Thurston on Wednesday.
Alyssa Peterson singled in the fifth for the Colts.
Sheldon 17, Lebanon 4: Kaycee Gamez belted a grand slam and finished with seven RBIs to lead the Irish to the road win over the Warriors.
South Eugene 3, Marshfield 2: Tristin Armstrong had an RBI triple and struck out five to earn the win for the visiting Axemen, who improved to 2-0 in league play.
Willamette 20, Springfield 14: Lissa Hatefi had three hits and four RBIs, and Sarah Leonard added three hits and three RBIs for the host Wolverines.
Baseball
Churchill 3, Thurston 2: Adam Trautman hit the go-ahead RBI triple in the bottom of the sixth inning and Jacob Franke pitched a scoreless seventh to earn the save.
Lebanon 3, Sheldon 2: Mike Greene belted a solo homer in the top of the seventh inning and struck out six in a complete-game effort.
South Eugene 4, Marshfield 3: Aaron Pratt hit a tiebreaking double with two outs in the bottom of the sixth to lift the host Axemen.
Willamette 8, Springfield 4: Phil Thomas was 2-for-2 with two RBIs to lead the Wolverines to the road win.
