Lance Johnson, vice president and relationship manager with Howard Bank, is the 2018 recipient of Towson University's Spirit of the University Award for his philanthropic efforts and dedication to the university and community.

The award, the university's most prestigious given to a volunteer, recognizes a graduate or non-graduate who has directly influenced Towson University alumni, students and the university community.

Johnson joined Howard Bank in March when Howard Bank completed its acquisition and merger of First Mariner Bank. He began his banking career at First Mariner Bank in 1999 working as vice president, commercial banking relationship manager, the same position he holds today at Howard.

Prior to joining First Mariner fulltime, Johnson played professional indoor soccer with the Baltimore Blast for more than 10 years. He was a five time All-star, won two championships and served as team captain for seven years. Johnson graduated from Towson University with a bachelor's degree in biology.
