Lagarde: World must pay attention to region, Jordan in particular.

Amman, May 12 (Petra) -- Managing director of the International Monetary Fund, Christine Lagarde, on Monday, stressed that Jordan has been exerting tremendous effort in caring for and aiding a large number of Syrian refugees on its territory and said they further assistance.

In interview with the Jordan News Agency (Petra), Lagarde called on the international community to pay further attention to this region of the world and to Jordan in particular.

On Jordan's reform effort, Lagarde said the IMF-sponsored economic reform program aims at reinvigorating the Jordanian economy and reining in public debt so as not to compromise the national currency.

She noted that the Kingdom has made distinguished effort with regards to carious aspects of economic reform, most notably, slashing budget deficit, managing public funds and curbing public debt.
