Labour of love.

SCOTTISH Labour's general secretary Lesley Quinn is to step down next year.

News of her departure yesterday drew warm tributes from Prime Minister Gordon Brown, former premier Tony Blair, Scots Secretary Des Browne and Holyrood leader Wendy Alexander.

Quinn, 43, has run Labour in Scotland since 1999, taking over the job from JackMcConnell.

She started working for the party as a 16-year-old shorthand typist and rose to one of the most powerful jobs in Scottish politics.

Brown said: "Lesley has made a massive contribution to the Labour Party. After 27 years, her leadership, counsel and experience will be sorely missed."
