Labour housing owners must clean up their act.

Byline: Municipality will impose fines of up to Dh100,000 on firms who fail to control sewage overflow.

Dubai: The municipality has asked companies to get their act together on wastewater overflow in labour accommodation or face a stiff penalty of up to Dh100,000.

The civic body has appealed to all establishments and companies that own or operate labour accommodation in Dubai to comply to its call to avoid overflow of wastewater in labour accommodation as this phenomenon will have a negative impact on public health, the environment and the image of the emirate.

The circular issued by the Municipality states that the civic body is keen to maintain public health and has decided to impose a fine of Dh10,000 against those who allow sewage to seep into the vicinity of their labour accommodation.

If the offender fails to clean up the area and remove all signs of the leakage, the Municipality will take the necessary steps to do this itself and then impose a fine up to Dh100,000 on the offender.

The Municipality called upon all concerned parties to ensure the cleanliness of the environment through proper maintenance of drainage systems and to avoid sewage overflow. It also urged all concerned to comply with the circular and cooperate with Municipality inspectors.
