LaRonde addition increases earnings

The addition of the LaRonde Mine is being credited for increasing first-quarter production and income totals for Agnico-Eagle Mines Ltd.

The mine, acquired in an amalgamation with Dumagami Mines, produced 25,010 ounces of gold during the first three months of the year. Company officials report that total production for the period was 44,034 ounces compared to 16,551 ounces for the same period last year.

Income for the first quarter increased to $21.2 million from 1989's $11.4 million. Net income for the quarter was $1.7 million. A net loss of $1.9 million had been posted in the first quarter of 1989.
