LaCie releases new line of 3.5" optical disc back-up drives.

TELECOMWORLDWIRE-(C) 1994-9 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD LaCie has launched its new line of 3.5" optical drives that use a 1.3Gb cartridge the same size as a floppy disk. The magneto-optical technology will apparently increase the security of archived and backed-up data, as it is written at very high temperatures on MO rewritable media according to LaCie, and the cartridges are not affected by magnetic fields.

The new 1.3Gb drive can read and write 128, 230, 540 and 640Mb 3.5" cartridges. The drive is priced at GBP499+VAT and will start shipping in July, while the 3.5" cartridges are priced at GBP7.50+Vat for the 640Mb, GBP5.80+VAT for the 230Mb and GBP5.50+VAT for the 128Mb cartridge.
