LYKES BROS. AWARDS FIVE FLORIDA SCHOLARSHIPS

 LYKES BROS. AWARDS FIVE FLORIDA SCHOLARSHIPS
 TAMPA, Fla., May 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Lykes Bros. Inc. will award

scholarships to five 1992 Florida high school graduates who will pursue college degrees in fields ranging from forestry to biomedical engineering.
 The awards are part of the ongoing Lykes Memorial Scholarship Program that makes money for college available to 16 students in three states this year.
 Initiated in the 1940s, the Lykes scholarship program today offers one two-year and one four-year scholarship in each of the following Florida locations: East Pasco, East Hillsborough, Highlands, Glades, and Indian River Counties, and the city of Tampa. Scholarships are also awarded in Georgia and Texas. Once a scholarship is awarded, it is closed to new applicants until the recipient completes the term or relinquishes the award. Two-year awards may be extended upon transfer to a four-year school.
 The 1992 Florida scholarship recipients are:
 -- Jason C. Fladd, son of Curtis and Debbie Fladd of Dade City, graduating from Pasco Comprehensive High School and receiving a two- year scholarship to begin a degree in engineering;
 -- Crystal L. Sumner, daughter of Louie and Ronelda Sumner of Lithia, graduating from Plant City High School and receiving a two- year scholarship to begin a degree in forestry;
 -- Michael W. Fisher, son of Kenneth and Margaret Fisher of Sebring, graduating from Sebring High School and receiving a four-year scholarship to study industrial engineering;
 -- Kathryn E. Thomas, daughter of Milford and Melinda Thomas of Palmdale, graduating from Moore Haven High School and receiving a two- year scholarship to begin studies in animal science;
 -- Kelli M. Salo, daughter of Raymond and Gloria Salo of Vero Beach, graduating from Vero Beach Senior High and receiving a four- year scholarship to study biomedical engineering.
 Lykes scholarships are awarded on the basis of scholastic achievements and financial need to students planning majors in: agriculture, animal science, forestry, land management, citrus, transportation, biology or microbiology, engineering, computer sciences, food sciences and technology, or related fields. The scholars' communities have real business needs and career opportunities in these fields. Good jobs should await these students in communities which can benefit from their educations.
 Lykes Bros. Inc. is a privately held, diversified corporation headquartered in Tampa and engaged in agriculture as well as production, distribution, marketing and sales of meat and citrus products.
