LUMHS organizes public awareness walk in Hyderabad to mark World Hepatitis Day.

ISLAMABAD -- Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences (LUMHS) Jamshoro organized a public awareness walk in Hyderabad to mark the World Hepatitis Day.

Addressing the participants Vice Chancellor of University Professor Bikha Ram Devrajani said Hepatitis B and C virus are the leading cause of liver cancer in the world, yet more than 80 percent of those affected with viral hepatitis are unaware of their status,Radio Pakistan reported.

He said there are many effective vaccines and treatments available for hepatitis B and C and eliminating viral hepatitis is highly achievable.

He further said that there are 325 million people living with viral hepatitis in the world, yet up to 290 million of these are unaware that they have it.

The Vice Chancellor said the awareness campaign aims to educate, influence national screening policies and encourage more people to get tested with the hope of finding the unaware cases and reducing the further spread of Hepatitis.
