LUKENS FACILITIES WIN ISO 9002 CERTIFICATION

COATESVILLE, Pa., Nov. 30 /PRNewswire/ -- Lukens Steel, a subsidiary of Lukens Inc. (NYSE: LUC), announced today its Coatesville and Conshohocken, Pa., manufacturing facilities have achieved certification of their quality systems to the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 9002 rating.
The facilities melt, roll, heat treat and finish carbon, alloy and clad steel plate under the Lukens Steel brand name, and roll, heat treat and finish stainless plate under the Washington Steel label.
"With this rating, Lukens offers a broader spectrum of plate products under an ISO 9002 certified quality system than any other North American producer," said Dennis M. Oates, president, Lukens Steel.
ISO 9000 series certification assures customers that the quality practices, including documentation, at these two plants are in conformance with an internationally recognized quality system. To receive this rating, the Lukens Steel facilities were found to meet all ISO 9002 quality systems requirements, based upon intensive evaluations by quality auditors from American Bureau of Shipping-Quality Evaluations, Inc.
"ISO 9002 certification represents the accomplishment of a major milestone in our Total Quality Leadership journey," said Oates. "It makes our products more competitive since many international purchasers require this important global quality rating."
Lukens Inc. is a Fortune 500 company whose subsidiaries supply carbon, alloy and clad plate steels; stainless steel sheet, strip and continuous mill products; and industrial products and services.
