LUKENS ANNOUNCES TENTATIVE AGREEMENT WITH STEELWORKERS
COATESVILLE, Pa., Jan. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Lukens Steel Company (NYSE: LUC) is pleased to announce that it has reached a tentative settlement on a labor contract for its hourly work force in Coatesville, said Robert Schaal, president and chief operating officer.
"We're happy the two sides were able to work together and reach a settlement," Schaal said. "This proposed four-year contract makes it possible for Lukens to finance the additional benefits sought by the union yet allows the company to remain economically strong. We believe that the union negotiating team is satisfied with the outcome and that the membership will ratify the contract on Thursday, Jan. 9."
The company will provide more details of the proposed contract after union leaders review the proposal with union members on Tuesday, Jan. 7.
Workers at the Lukens Coatesville steel plant have been on strike since Oct. 1. Lukens has been able to operate during the strike by using temporary workers and salaried personnel.
