LOS ANGELES, March 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Lufthansa German Airlines is introducing a special free ticket offer to any of its passengers who fly first, business or full-fare economy class roundtrip across the Atlantic from one of the airline's 12 U.S. gateways between now and June 15. The free tickets can be used to fly to any of 96 destinations in the airline's European route network. The airline is making the offer in conjunction with the introduction of new inflight services on board all of its intercontinental Boeing 747 jets and other wide-body aircraft flights.
Lufthansa passengers who make one first class roundtrip transatlantic flight to any Lufthansa destination worldwide will earn one free business class roundtrip ticket to their choice of 96 Lufthansa destinations in Europe. Business class and full-fare economy passengers who complete one roundtrip transatlantic trip will earn one free full- fare economy class roundtrip ticket.
This special Lufthansa free ticket offer is valid only on travel originating from the airline's 12 continental U.S. gateways to any Lufthansa gateway around the world. The initial ticket must be purchased in the United States and travel has to be from one of the airline's U.S. airport gateways. Travel on the free ticket has to take place between the periods of Sept. 15, 1992 and Feb. 28, 1993.
To qualify for the free ticket offer, passengers have to complete their initial roundtrip on Lufthansa by June 15 of this year. To receive the award tickets, passengers are asked to submit both of their boarding passes, a copy of the remaining ticket coupon and a Lufthansa registration form, which will be provided at departure. The forms and copies must be sent to the airline no later than Aug. 15, 1992.
Award tickets can only be issued to passengers with the same surname or to those who reside in the same household as the original ticket purchaser. Reservations for the free ticket have to be made at least 14 days before departure.
Lufthansa will introduce new inflight service features on all of its intercontinental Boeing 747 jets and its other wide-body aircraft beginning March 29. The free ticket offer is one of the ways the airline is promoting the new service concept on board its 747s, Airbus A310s and DC-10s.
A highlight of the new service is entirely new business class seats aboard the 747s with four to seven abreast seating and increased seat pitch. First class cabins on the 747s will now be situated just on the upper deck and business class will now extend to the front of the main cabin offering more legroom and seat comfort. In all classes, Lufthansa will introduce new menu covers and new menu features.
Business class will offer a four-part dining service with separate offers of cheese, fruit and dessert from a service trolley followed by coffee, tea and after-dinner drinks. Economy class will feature a snack buffet on westbound flights and a new economy menu with choice of entrees. Lufthansa will introduce inseat videos in both first and business class. The business class seats and the inseat videos will be installed in all aircraft by September 1992.
