LUFTHANSA BECOMES A 'COMPLETE' BOEING 737 OPERATOR
SEATTLE, July 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Lufthansa German Airlines today

became a "complete" Boeing 737 operator when the carrier took delivery of its first 737-400, Boeing said today. With this delivery, Lufthansa becomes the only carrier to operate every version of the popular 737 ever manufactured.
Since placing its first order for 737s as a program launch customer in 1965, Lufthansa has ordered a total of 143 Boeing 737s. The airline took delivery of the 2,000th 737 -- and its 100th -- in February 1991.
The Boeing 737 is the best-selling commercial airplane in the world. The new-generation family of 737s, introduced in 1984 with the 737-300, has a high degree of commonality among the three models which gives operators significant savings in maintenance, spares and training. In addition, all 737s have the same pilot type rating, allowing airlines greater flexibility to match airplane
size to traffic loads for the lowest possible operating costs. The new- generation 737 fleet has dispatch reliability of 99.15 percent worldwide.
The -400 is the largest of the three models of 737 currently in production and can accommodate 146 to 168 passengers, depending upon the individual carrier's configuration. As configured for Lufthansa, the 737-400 will accommodate 128 passengers in a dual-class arrangement.
To date, 36 customers have ordered a total of 394 Boeing 737-400s.
