LUFTHANSA AFFILIATE ACQUIRES TWO NEW CANADAIR REGIONAL JET AIRCRAFT

 TORONTO, Jan. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- The Bombardier Regional Aircraft Division today announced that Lufthansa Leasing of Frankfurt, Germany, has signed an agreement to acquire two new Canadair Regional Jet aircraft. Value of the two aircraft is approximately (US)$39 million.
 The two aircraft, scheduled for delivery in May and June, 1994, will be leased and operated by Lufthansa CityLine.
 Lufthansa CityLine currently operates 13 Canadair Jet aircraft, and Lufthansa cooperative partner Lauda Air of Vienna, Austria, has ordered six (with options on an additional six), which it will operate in conjunction with Lufthansa.
 "Lufthansa CityLine was the first airline worldwide to operate the Canadair Jet, and we are extremely gratified that Lufthansa is increasing its fleet by two additional Canadair Jet aircraft," said Pierre Lortie, president of Bombardier Regional Aircraft Division.
 The 50-passenger twinjet has carved an impressive niche in Europe and North America, expanding the operating parameters of regional carriers and enabling major airlines to rationalize route requirements to jet aircraft size. By the end of September, after nearly a year in service, 17,750 flight cycles, and demonstrated outstanding performance and operating economics.
 Lufthansa CityLine was the first operator of the aircraft, introducing service Nov. 2, 1992, and COMAIR, of Cincinnati, Ohio, was the first North American carrier to operate the aircraft commencing service on June 1, 1993. To date, airlines have placed firm orders for 64 aircraft, with 25 now in service.
 The Bombardier Regional Aircraft Division markets and supports the Canadair Regional Jet and the de Havilland Dash 8 family of turboprop airliners.
