LUCAS WINS ROLLS-ROYCE CONTRACT FOR SOLID-STATE IGNITION UNITS

LUCAS WINS ROLLS-ROYCE CONTRACT FOR SOLID-STATE IGNITION UNITS
SINGAPORE, Feb. 25 /PRNewswire/ -- Lucas Aerospace has been awarded a contract by Rolls-Royce for the supply of solid-state ignition units for the Tay 651 engine which is to be fitted on the Boeing 727-100 aircraft fleet of United Parcel Service.
A significant feature of the contract is that this is the first occasion that Rolls-Royce has selected a solid-state, continuously rated, dual energy output ignition system for installation on their engines.
An essential requirement when awarding this contract was the ability of Lucas to meet the demanding Rolls-Royce delivery program which begins in early 1992. Lucas' Switchgear & Ignition facility in Conventry, England, is the producer and supplier of these units.
The Lucas solid-state electronic ignition units have been designed using a technology which provides considerable customer benefits such as extended unit and plug life, greater reliability and substantial savings in weight when compared with conventional or other solid-state systems.
Lucas Aerospace is a leading supplier of aerospace systems and equipment with sales of $1.3 billion (750 million pounds Sterling) and operating facilities across Europe, North America and Asia- Pacific, as well as associated companies, joint ventures, marketing and customer support facilities around the world. The company is a subsidiary of Lucas Industries plc. -- an international organization serving the aerospace, automotive and other selected markets, with sales of $4 billion (2.4 billion pounds Sterling).
