LUCAS WINS CONTRACT ON PATRIOT MISSILE

LUCAS WINS CONTRACT ON PATRIOT MISSILE
RESTON, Va., June 25 /PRNewswire/ -- Lucas Aerospace has been

selected by Raytheon Missile Systems Division, Bedford, Mass., to supply the case and nozzle for rocket motors used in the Patriot Missile.
This award, which has been won by Lucas Defense Fabrications of Burnley, England, is in support of a requirement of the U.S. government. The delivery of motor cases is scheduled to begin in mid-1993. Further potential awards could follow from expected sales of the system worldwide. Value of the contract is undisclosed.
The Patriot Air Defense System was much acclaimed for its performance during the Gulf War, where it proved its role as a ground launched, advanced guided weapon system capable of defending an area against tactical ballistic missiles as well as aircraft.
Tony Edwards, group managing director of Lucas Industries, said, "This contract award further underlines the strength of Lucas products in the highly competitive aerospace marketplace and enhances Lucas' position as a world leader in defense fabrications."
Raytheon has teamed with British Aerospace to offer a combination of a more advanced version of the Patriot and the Rapier system to meet the U.K.'s requirement for a replacement area defense system to the Bloodhound system. The evaluation is presently being undertaken by the U.K. Ministry of Defense (MoD), and if the Raytheon/BAe team is successful, it could result in additional business for Lucas' Burnley-based facility.
Lucas Aerospace is a leading supplier of aerospace systems and equipment with sales of $1.3 billion and operating facilities across Europe, North America and Asia-Pacific, as well as associated companies, joint ventures, marketing and customer support facilities around the world. The company is a subsidiary of Lucas Industries, plc -- an international organization serving the aerospace, automotive and other selected markets, with sales of $4 billion.
