LUCAS WINS $100M CONTRACT FROM BMW ROLLS-ROYCE AERO ENGINES

RESTON, Va., March 29 /PRNewswire/ -- Lucas has been awarded a contract from BMW Rolls-Royce Aero Engines of Oberursel, Frankfurt, Germany, to supply Engine-Mounted Accessory Drive gearboxes for BR700 series of engines.
The value is estimated at approximately $100 million over the life of the contract.
Frank Turner, managing director - Aerospace, Lucas Industries, said, "This is a very significant breakthrough into a new market."
Lucas Western Geared Systems, Park City, Utah, will build the gearboxes, which convert spool rotary energy into drives for accessory components including fuel pump, alternator, generator, hydraulic pump, oil pump and starter.
The BMW Rolls-Royce Aero Engines was founded as an independent company in 1990 to develop a family of engines in the 12 to 23,000 lbs. thrust class. The company last year received its first order to supply the BR710 engines for the Gulfstream V business jet. In addition, BMW Rolls-Royce has signed a pre-launch agreement with Canadair to power their Global Express business jet.
Lucas Western Geared Systems is part of the international group of businesses that comprise Lucas Flight Control Systems, which, in addition to its power transmission capabilities, designs, develops and manufactures primary and secondary actuation systems, special purpose actuation systems, servo-controls, rescue hoists and winches, and hydraulic systems.
Lucas' aerospace businesses are leading suppliers of aerospace systems and equipment with annual sales of $1.2 billion and operating facilities across North America, Europe and Asia-Pacific, as well as associated companies, joint ventures, marketing and customer support facilities around the world. The businesses are part of Lucas Industries plc -- an international organization serving the aerospace, automotive and other selected markets, with sales of $4.5 billion.
