LUCAS SELECTED AS PREFERRED SUPPLIER BY LORD

RESTON, Va., June 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Lord Corp., Erie, Pa., has selected Lucas Electronics as a preferred supplier to cooperatively develop and supply active vibration and noise control systems for the aerospace industry. This selection follows extensive evaluation of several leading aerospace electronic suppliers.
The first of these systems will be the Lord-developed Active Isolation System (AIS), incorporating a Lucas/Lord developed controller which is designed to reduce engine vibrations (due to engine imbalance) that are transmitted to the aircraft structure through the engine mounts. The result is a quieter and smoother cabin. The AIS is a major innovation in the industry's efforts to increase passenger comfort and utilizes the latest control, power amplification and actuator techniques.
The system has undergone successful ground and flight demonstrations. These tests have shown that the system is simpler and more effective than competing technologies, such as active noise cancellation. It has the potential to save money for the airframer, engine manufacturer and airline. This is a result of a reduced need to precision balance the engines and the ability to eliminate some previously used vibration and noise control treatments.
The AIS is a result of the technology backgrounds of the two companies. Lord Corp. is a world leader in the field of passive and active engine mounting systems. Lucas Electronics supplies electronic equipment and embedded software for control and monitoring purposes both in collaboration with other Lucas business units and independently in the aerospace, automotive and industrial systems markets.
Lucas aerospace businesses are leading suppliers of aerospace systems and equipment with annual sales of $1.2 billion and operating facilities across North America, Europe and Asia-Pacific, as well as associated companies, joint ventures, marketing and customer support facilities around the world. The businesses are part of Lucas Industries plc, a leading international supplier of advanced technology systems, components and services to the world's aerospace, automotive and other selected markets, with sales of $4.5 billion.
Lord Corp. is the worldwide supplier of vibration, shock and motion control devices and mechanical systems for fixed and rotary winged aircraft and military electronic components. They have seven domestic plants and others in the United Kingdom, Japan, Brazil and joint ventures located in Mexico, Germany and the United Kingdom.
