LUCAS AWARDED CONTRACT BY SWEARINGEN AIRCRAFT

RESTON, Va., Feb. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- Swearingen Aircraft of San Antonio, Texas, has selected Lucas to furnish the 300 ampere electrical power system for the new Swearingen Aircraft SJ30 business jet. The generators, designed and produced by Lucas' Power Equipment facility in Aurora, Ohio, will provide both engine starting and primary electrical power for the aircraft. According to Swearingen, the Lucas system was chosen because of its lightweight design and new state-of-the-art, microprocessor-based generator control unit. First delivery of hardware is slated for the third quarter of 1993. The value of the contract is undisclosed.
Lucas' Power Equipment facility is part of the international group of business units that comprise the Lucas Aerospace Aircraft Systems Business which, in addition to its electric power generation capabilities, designs, develops and manufactures equipment and systems for ice protection, missile casings and actuation, cockpit and cabin windows and cargo handling systems.
Lucas' aerospace businesses are leading suppliers of aerospace systems and equipment with annual sales of $1.2 billion and operating facilities across North America, Europe and Asia-Pacific, as well as associated companies, joint ventures, marketing and customer support facilities around the world. The businesses are part of Lucas Industries plc -- an international organization serving the aerospace, automotive and other selected markets, with sales of $4.5 billion.
