TROY, Mich., Sept. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Lucas has received a $1.5 million follow-on contract from Ford Motor Company (NYSE: F), Dearborn, Mich., to supply the Timer Control Module for the 1994-model Mercury Villager and Nissan Quest. The Timer Control Unit has several features that include intelligent room-light control, fasten seat-belt chime and light, rear-screen heating timer, variable instrument-panel illumination and a keyless entry interface.
The unit has improved features over the existing Lucas part that it replaces. The intelligent room-light control illuminates specific lights within the minivan depending on which door is opened. Additionally, the new unit provides two options for the seat belt warning light: the unit can be set for a 60-second lamp period, as it is in the Nissan Quest, or a continuous lamp period, as it is in the Mercury Villager. Finally, the new unit includes the keyless entry interface which, at the push of a button on the key, unlocks the doors and illuminates the van interior.
Lucas also provides the Daytime-Driving Light Control Unit for the Canadian version of these vehicles. The Daytime-Driving Light Control Unit automatically turns on the high-beams at a reduced intensity which reduces the chance of bulb burnout. The unit contains logic inputs which turn off the daytime driving lights when the low beams or parking brakes are utilized.
The module and lighting control unit are produced for Ford at Lucas Body Systems' assembly plant in Flint, Mich. Lucas Body Systems produces a wide range of driver interface and control products including lighting switchpacks, panel rheostats, instrument panel control switches, column switches, anti-slosh modules and suspension leveling switches for the automotive industry.
Lucas automotive businesses are leading suppliers of automotive systems and equipment with annual sales of $2.8 billion and operating facilities across North America, Europe and Asia-Pacific, as well as associated companies, joint ventures, marketing and customer support facilities around the world. The businesses are part of Lucas Industries plc, a leading international supplier of advanced technology systems, components and services to the world's aerospace, automotive and other selected markets, with sales of $4.5 billion.
