LUCAS AEROSPACE EXPANDS THRUST INTO CHINA
 FARNBOROUGH, England, Sept. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- China's aircraft

manufacturers have been expanding their products and production to satisfy the country's growing air transport needs. Additionally, China National Aerotechnology Import and Export (CATIC) is promoting the export of aircraft using Western engines and equipment. To take advantage of these growing opportunities within China, Lucas Aerospace has developed a working relationship with Chinese aircraft manufacturers over the last six years and is now furnishing electric power systems for two Chinese commuter aircraft and a jet trainer.
Lucas Aerospace provides starter generators and generator systems for the Y7-200A, a 52-seat commuter aircraft manufactured by the Xian Aircraft Co. in Yan Liang, Xian; the Y-12, a 17-seat commuter manufactured by the Harbin Aircraft Manufacturing Corp. in Harbin; and the K-8 trainer manufactured by Nanchang Aircraft Manufacturing Co. located in Nanchang.
Lucas Aerospace expects the air transport needs for the Asia- Pacific region to continue to grow, and these commuter transports are expected to capture market share in the region.
The generators are produced by two Lucas businesses -- Power Equipment in Aurora, Ohio, and Power Systems in Hemel Hempstead, England. They are part of the international group of businesses that comprise the Aircraft Systems Division, which, in addition to its electric power generation capabilities, designs, develops and manufactures equipment and systems for ice protection, missile casings and actuation, cockpit and cabin windows and cargo handling systems.
Lucas Aerospace is a leading supplier of aerospace systems and equipment with sales of $1.3 billion and operating facilities across Europe, North America and Asia-Pacific, as well as associated companies, joint ventures, marketing and customer support facilities around the world. The company is a subsidiary of Lucas Industries plc -- an international organization serving the aerospace, automotive and other selected markets, with sales of $4 billion.
