 LUCAS AEROSPACE AWARDED APU GENERATING SYSTEM
 FOR GRUMMAN'S JOINT STARS PROGRAM
 RESTON, Va., Dec. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Lucas Aerospace has been awarded the Auxiliary Power Unit (APU) electrical generating system for Grumman's E-8C Joint Surveillance and Target Attack Radar System (Joint STARS) which made its spectacular debut for the U.S. Air Force in the Gulf War. Lucas Aerospace's Power Systems facility in Hemel Hempstead, England, will supply the APU generating system to World Auxiliary Power Co., San Leandro, Calif., who will in turn provide the entire APU system to Grumman Melbourne Systems Division, Melbourne, Fla. Value of the contract is undisclosed.
 The Joint STARS APU generating system is based on experience gained by the contribution Lucas has made to the European Airbus programs and has a power rating of 120KVA. The system utilizes the unique 2-pole 24,000 rpm generator technology developed by Lucas, which provides one of the highest generator power-to-weight ratios in the world today. The generator control unit is based on an analogue unit which is supplied by Lucas on a wide range of applications.
