LUCAS/PILKINGTON TEAM WINS INDONESIAN TRANSPARENCY CONTRACT
RESTON, Va., Oct. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Lucas Aerospace Engineering & Heating Systems, Luton, England, in partnership with Pilkington, Birmingham, England, has been awarded the contract to supply cockpit transparencies, control equipment and passenger cabin windows for the Indonesia-manufactured IPTN N250 aircraft, a 50 seater turbo-prop commuter. IPTN plans to build up to 300 of these aircraft to meet growing demand for commuter transport in the Far East. Value of the contract is undisclosed.
The successful bid combines the technologies of two internationally renowned, world leading companies. These technologies include Pilkington's advanced high-strength glass (Super 1020) and Lucas thin film coating technology.
"This strategic move into the Far East is an important success for Lucas/Pilkington and represents a continued commitment to the aerospace industry in that region," said Phil Barrington, general manager of the Luton-based Lucas facility.
This business is part of the international group of business units that comprise the Aircraft Systems Division which, in addition to its transparency capabilities, designs, develops and manufactures equipment and systems for electric power generation, ice protection, missile casings and actuation, electroluminescent lighting, cockpit and cabin windows and cargo handling systems.
