LUCAS, FIATAVIO SIGN MOA TO PURSUE COOPERATION AGREEMENT

 RESTON, Va., May 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Lucas Industries plc and FiatAvio of Torino, Italy, have signed a Memorandum of Agreement for technical and commercial cooperation in the field of gear systems for application on helicopter power transmissions. Under the terms of the agreement, the two companies will explore a broad spectrum of possible developments in the technical, commercial and industrial fields.
 Currently, Lucas has a broad capability in providing power transmission for accessory drives, including engine- and aircraft- mounted gearboxes, shafts, couplings, propulsion gearing and reduction gearboxes.
 FiatAvio has proven capabilities in designing, developing and manufacturing gear systems for aeronautical engines as well as for helicopter transmissions. FiatAvio has recently extended its capabilities to the Fan Driven Gear System technology for ultra high bypass engines.
 "The memorandum between Lucas and FiatAvio brings together two individual strengths to create one strong initiative toward the advancement of gear systems," said Gordon Walsh, managing director of Lucas Flight Control Systems from which this initiative stems. "This relationship adds one more dimension to the efforts currently being undertaken by Lucas in this field."
