LTX AND GENRAD ANNOUNCE MCM TESTING ALLIANCE

BALTIMORE, Oct. 19 /PRNewswire/ -- LTX Corporation (OTC: LTXX) and GenRad Corporation (NYSE: GEN) announced at the 1993 International Test Conference an alliance to jointly develop a family of test systems for testing and diagnosing failures on multichip modules (MCMs). The test systems will be based on the LTX Delta family of high performance digital testers and will use GenRad's diagnostic and fault isolation software tools.
Multichip modules combine advanced interconnection and packaging technologies to enable electronic products to achieve high levels of functional density and product performance. The testing of MCMs require the precision and speed of a high performance VLSI system with the capabilities of the LTX Delta family to fully verify their functionality. In addition, state-of-the-art automatic diagnostics, such as found in GenRad's Scan Pathfinder(TM), are needed to efficiently identify and repair faulty MCMs.
The test system will initially have up to 512 data channels, data rates up to 100 MHz and full timing flexibility. Diagnostic software will include an IEEE-1149.1 compliant boundary scan module for generating test vectors and performing tests; fault dictionaries for failure isolation; guided probe tools for use with an automated prober; and translation tools to convert test vectors from CAE systems into patterns compatible with the Delta system. The first product is scheduled for release in the latter half of 1994.
Graham Miller, chairman and president of LTX said: "We have maintained a good relationship with GenRad over the years and have always used GenRad's board testers in our factories. We have a great respect for their technical capability. This is the first engineering project we will work on together and it may lead to other technology alliances in the future. This project allows LTX and GenRad to combine the best capabilities of each company to develop a product that will fully address the needs of the emerging market in MCMs."
Jim Lyons, CEO and president of GenRad, said: "LTX is recognized as a world leader in high performance digital IC testing. Combining our expertise in diagnostic software with LTX test systems will provide an excellent solution for those customers that migrate their designs from conventional circuit boards to multichip modules. This alliance is one example of how we intend to apply GenRad's technological capabilities to applications beyond conventional board test."
