LTV STEEL TO INSTALL ADDITIONAL ENVIRONMENTAL CONTROLS
AT PITTSBURGH COKE PLANT
CLEVELAND, Feb. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- LTV Steel today announced that it intends to install coke oven gas igniter flare stacks at its Pittsburgh Coke Plant. The emergency igniter flare stacks will ensure that coke oven gas will be combusted before entering the atmosphere in the highly unlikely event of a failure in the plant's by products operations. LTV Steel management has decided to follow this course of action because of the recent coke oven gas venting incidents caused by an internal power failure at the plant.
The company will meet with the Allegheny County Bureau of Air Pollution Control in the near future to discuss the regulatory details of the installation of the igniter flare stacks.
The company has issued a purchase order with an engineering firm to prepare design specifications for the flare stack system and will seek final internal authorization for this installation as soon as the design specifications are complete.
LTV Steel is a leading manufacturer of high-quality, engineered flat rolled and tubular steel products. It is a wholly owned subsidiary of The LTV Corporation (NYSE: QLTV), a diversified company also involved in aerospace/defense and energy products.
