PITTSBURGH, Jan. 28 /PRNewswire/ -- LTV Steel Company (Cleveland Works-West) has awarded Mannesmann Demag Corporation the turnkey contract for the supply of a new 2-strand slab caster and ladle metallurgy facility with alloy additive system and new chem lab.
The annual caster production will be 2 million tons per year of low, medium and high carbon grades and aluminum and silicon killed steels and will be fed with 220-240 short tons BOF heats.
The facility will feature Direct Hot Charging Complex (DHCC) which will integrate the direct hot-charging of slabs (9" thick x 24"-63" wide) to feed the modernized reheat furnace and revamped 80" hot strip mill.
LTV favored Mannesmann Demag following competitive bidding convinced that the contractor's expertise would assure them of high-quality products to meet their strategy of global competitiveness.
