LTI 20-20 SPEED GUN HELPS THE ENDEAVOUR CAPTURE THE SATELLITE,
THE AMERICA 3 CREW CAPTURES THE AMERICA'S CUP
ENGLEWOOD, Colo., May 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Laser Technology Inc.'s (OTC Bulletin Board: LTNO) LTI 20-20 speed gun just returned to Earth having successfully assisted the space shuttle Endeavour's daredevil maneuver of capturing the errant communications satellite floating some 230 miles above the Earth.
Utilized by law enforcement agencies around the world for speed enforcement, the LTI 20-20, customized for NASA, was instrumental in providing the astronauts with distance and closing speed information. This data insured the shuttle's approach to the satellite at the correct rate of speed.
According to David Williams, president of the Colorado-based Laser Technology, Inc., NASA engineers reported that the performance of the LTI 20-20 met and exceeded their scientific expectations.
Meanwhile, in the America's Cup, skipper Bill Koch and the America 3 crew utilized the LTI 20-20 to acquire distance and bearing to competitive boats. This information was used to determine closing or departing speeds which greatly enhanced America 3's winning strategy.
On the ground, in recent days, the LTI 20-20 established legal precedents in New York State and in Vermont. In both cases, the court ruled that the LTI 20-20 speed detection system was an accurate and reliable instrument with which to measure and determine speed.
Aimed with a telescope sight at a suspected speeder, the speed gun emits a series of pulses from an infra-red laser diode. The time it takes for reflections to return, indicates the car's distance from the gun. Computation of the rate at which that distance changes, yields a speed reading. This new technology is popular with law enforcement officials for it renders the radar detector obsolete.
After a long testing period, Laser Technology, Inc. anticipates receiving German approval of the LTI 20-20 laser speed gun within the next 30 days. German approval will have a dramatic impact on LTI 20-20 sales throughout Europe. Laser Technology's European distributor has ordered 200 units requesting delivery as soon as possible.
Laser Technology's sales for the first three months of its 1992 calendar year were $1.187 million, up 528 percent from last year, while its profit margins rose over 20 percent of sales.
