LP not worried of Poe's announcement.
ILOILO CITY--The Liberal Party (LP) is not worried of the impending announcement of Senator Grace Poe to run for president.
"Worried? Why should we be worried if she is announcing her plan?," expressed President Benigno S. Aquino III while in Iloilo City last September 14 for the inauguration of the controversial Iloilo Convention Center and the Iloilo Business Park of Megaworld Corp.
Accompanying President Aquino in Iloilo City was Secretary Manuel "Mar" Roxas II, the presidential candidate of LP for the May 2016 national elections.
Poe will reportedly announce her bid for the presidency on September 16.
"We would like to hear what she says though," Aquino said.
LP earlier tried to woo Poe as the vice presidential running mate of Roxas, but talks failed.
Aquino also clarified that LP stands on a particular platform.
"We're moving away from personality politics to platform-based politics," Aquino noted.
During his brief speech earlier, Aquino rallied Ilonggos to support the candidacy of Roxas, whom he reminded is a native of Panay Island.
Roxas' grandfather, former President Manuel A. Roxas, hails from neighboring Capiz province.
Meanwhile, Aquino downplayed that LP has narrowed down its choices for vice presidential candidates to Senator Alan Peter Cayetano, Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte and Camarines Sur 3rd District Representative Leni Robredo.
"I cannot speak at this point in time, but we do have a criteria," Aquino said.
"At the end of the day, it is still the standard bearer (Roxas) who will have the biggest say as who he wants as a running mate," Aquino added.
While Roxas was physically present in Iloilo City, he was mum and did not talk to the media during the press conference.
